Our goal is to improve both (1)the ability of students to interact in English by encouraging and creating
environments and activities that elicit students to ask questions to each other and (2)providing a challenging – yet
supportive –environment for students to learn through failure. Without the ability to fluently ask questions, students
cannot easily have a conversation.

They can only engage in short, factual responses. The typical school environment teaches that failure is bad.
But without failure, people do not learn how to overcome obstacles and limitations.

The primary job of ILCE is to set up challenges for the students that are just slightly outside their comfort zone
and guide students to progress to the next level of challenges and learning.

ILCE uses Student-Centered approach to find areas where students need help. This creates valuable time with the
students at ILCE.

This approach also provides us with an immediate resource to GENUINELY praise students by
showing them how much they are progressing daily and making innovative learning environments.

All material and activities MUST be anchored back to the students. Individual skills such as essays, debates, discussion,
vocabulary practice, presentations of stories, speaking activities, language drills and games are “stepping stones” or “scaffolds” to develop the skills for students to be able to express and expand information about their own lives, family, friends, homes, city, country, culture, even academic subjects, etc.

This is a great way to build rapport and the common thread for all classroom performances.
